Recently Marshall, Parker and Weber had the opportunity to sit down with Tracy A. Haas, Director of Program & Services, at North Central Sight Services, Inc. to learn about all of the services NCSS provides to blind or visually impaired residents in Bradford, Centre, Clinton, Lycoming, Potter, Sullivan, Susquehanna, and Tioga Counties.
NCSS is a not-for-profit agency and they provide blindness prevention education, vision screenings, and employment to blind or visually impaired residents. I was fascinated with the items in their Low Vision Store. What wonderful products to help our community live independently.  Some of the items include:
- A 20/20 pen, which writes bold like a sharpie but does not bleed through the paper
- Pot watcher that rattles when water is boiling
- Cut safe plastic knife
- Large button phones
- Large playing cards
- Large TV remote controls
- Large keyboards
- Talking watches
- Bump and locator dots
- Magnifiers
- Large checkbook registers and calendars
They also offer audio book and newspaper services as well as social and recreational groups. They have an adventure group, ladies club, and life skills and education to name a few.
NCSS is located at 2121 Reach Road, Williamsport PA 17701, (570) 323-9401 or (866) 320-2580, and they are also located on the web at https://www.ncsight.org or your can follow them on Facebook.
What a great community resource! If you have a friend, family member or client who is blind or visually impaired, please take the time to share this resource.
